Samira has worked at Justice for Children and Youth since her call to the bar in 2012.
Justice for Children and Youth provides select legal representation to low-income children and youth in Toronto and vicinity. They are a non-profit legal aid clinic that specializes in protecting the rights of those facing conflicts with the legal system, education, social service or mental health systems. In conjunction with legal assistance they provide community outreach and public legal education.
Samira’s practice focuses on representing highly vulnerable youth with intersecting legal issues including youth criminal justice, child protection, mental health, immigration, education and disability. She strives to provide comprehensive solution focussed legal services. She has appeared in front of many tribunals and routinely appears in front of the Ontario Court of Justice in many jurisdictions around the province. Samira routinely provides public legal facilitates legal education presentations for front-line staff who work with youth and presents at numerous conferences. She acted as co-counsel for JFCY’s intervention at the Supreme Court of Canada in Kanthasamy v Canada.
